Idea development and process. Karaoke

“I've already been working on a kind of 'reverse karaoke' real-time sound/text system - the text is displayed after I sing, instead of the usual read-sing way. It's part of my interest in noise/karaoke but also referencing stuff like invented-languages, non-language, random syntax, computer junk, cartoon music, etc. Sometimes I use it in my performances, but not at Madame Claude.”
“My first idea is to use your fonts in this system, and project onto a screen/costume/audience? But I'm sure you have many more...”
Scott Sinclair is running projects as The Superusers and his solo project Company Fuck. They are not jet very strictly separated, but the idea is that the superusers is more about technology, future and utopia, and Company Fuck is more trash, recycling music bits putting them together and more low tech.
Since Scott is very fascinated about karaoke practically and conceptually, since it is about typography and performance directly from the beginning, we have decided to develop this concept further and see what we will come up with.
So the first thing I went to this karaoke bar where Scott is working. Here you go, quite an inspiring stuff.

Essential idea was to use karaoke as a starting point. But change the medium and instead of screen produce various planchets, with fragments of a songs, onomatopoeias, abstract words produced by computer. These planchets would be hold by public and he would try to sing and make noise according on what public shows. So public becomes karaoke screen, and it creates interaction between him and public.
But sadly Scott needed to go to Australia and we needed quickly change idea.
So now Scott Sinclair, will make special performance in Australia. He will use specially made screen shots with sentence fragments from different songs. It is like working in the blind, because he did not really know what I will come up with, and I don’t know how he will use this stuff in his performance. Video of the performance will be shown on September 30th in Panke.
in addition to that I produced 5 silkscreen karaoke posters, where some ideas can be seen. And they will be also shown in the event in Panke.
